On 2 June, the QuantumTX 2020-21 innovation, technology initiative culminated in a showcase of Western Australian SMEs that are leveraging their advantages in automation, remote operations, data, Ai, gamification and environmental technologies, into the global space sector supply chains. The event also highlighted the cross-sector benefits of scaling small & medium sized businesses across the METS, Energy, Defence & Agri sectors.
With the backdrop of a spectacular sunrise overlooking the Swan River, the expert speakers included the Hon. Don Punch MLA – W.A. Minister for Innovation & ICT, Peter Rossdeutscher FAICD – Chair of the SmartSAT CRC Industry Advisory Board & Leanne Cunnold – CEO of AROSE.
In his opening address Adjunct Professor Rossdeutscher commented; “As open innovation is transforming the USD 314B global space sector, Australia is positioned to benefit from our technology leadership in the Clean Energy, Minerals, Agriculture, Advanced Manufacturing & Defence Industries. W.A. is a fantastic place to grow & scale a global business with leadership in research, technology & commercial collaboration.”
QuantumTX accelerates industry where Australia’s strongest industries align with digital technology & the space sector, in converging technology streams that extend competitive advantages in AI, Robotics, Automation, Remote Operations, Simulation, Digital Communications & Data Sciences. It includes facilitated site sessions at the Roy Hill Operations Control Centre, Woodside Robotics, Fugro SPAARC, UWA International Space Centre & direct discussions with Rio Tinto, BHP, The Australian Space Agency, Robotics Australia, Airbus, Imdex & Defence West.

I was fortunate to attend the WA Space Sector Showcase this morning & watch pitches from a number of Quantum training program alumni companies – & it is very clear ‘space’ is well on its way to becoming a key industry sector and job creator in Western Australia,” said Hon. Don Punch MLA, Minister for Innovation and ICT.
The highlight[s] were summary pitches from some of WA’s Leading Technology Startups & SMEs. Introduced by innovation leader Natasha Teakle, MD of Innovation Cluster, the pitches included Cumulous Projects, EXODUS Space Systems, Oleology, ISOLABS, Curtin University BINAR, Epichem, Zella DC, Tap Into Safety & Sentient Systems. Renae Sayers included an update of the rapidly approaching day that the first satellite model fully designed & built in Australia will be launched into space – only 76 days & counting down.
The focus of QTX is to Incubate & accelerate capability, capacity and collaboration that scales startups, ecosystems, export and job creation.
