METS Ignited is part of the Australian Government’s Industry Growth Centres Initiative from the Department of Industry, Science and Resources.

METS Ignited works with Australian suppliers to the mining industry, global miners, research organisations and capital providers to improve the global competitiveness and productivity of the Australian METS sector.

Our five areas of strategic focus to help strengthen the global competitiveness of the Australian METS sector are:

Shared vision

We want to engage with you to develop and actively debate a shared vision for future growth.

Strengthen collaboration in the mining innovation system

We will work with you to develop greater collaboration with the global supply chains to generate commercial opportunities.

Address gaps in the METS-Mining ecosystem

We will identify development areas for METS to take advantage of global opportunities and how to overcome barriers to continued success.

Raise your profile

We will raise the profile of the capabilities of the Australian METS industry to better position Australia as the innovation hub for the global mining industry.

Promote world-class clusters

We will identify and promote our key clusters and collaboration networks, to generate integrated strategic opportunities.

Digital automation technologies in the mining industry continue to present a tremendous opportunity for Australia, their adoption has the potential to add $74 billion in value to the national economy by 2030 and create more than 80,000 new jobs.

Australian METS companies are better-placed to realise these opportunities than competitors in other markets globally, thanks to Australia’s bounty of natural resources, the sector’s world-class capabilities and skills, and the leading global position of the Australian METS and mining industries. Australia is well placed to lead the widespread adoption of Industry 4.0 technology and the real and immediate opportunity automation is providing to the Mining industry.

One of the ways in which METS Ignited is enabling Australian METS companies to embrace the development of new innovative digital technologies is to administer collaborative project funds whereby participants (industry, METS companies and research organisations) work together to deliver outcomes for the mining industry. It also provides ways for technology providers to connect and combine their individual solutions into merged offerings that solve industry challenges and are more commercially viable. METS Ignited provides the framework to achieve that outcome.

National Accelerator

METS Ignited in partnership with the Queensland Government, NERA Industry Growth Centre and Western Australian Government are making an important and exciting step towards establishing a national scale-up accelerator program focused on priority mining and energy resources sectors.

METS Ignited Project Funds

Supporting industry-wide collaboration

The METS Ignited Project Funds is a $15.6m, four-year initiative to support, encourage and fund sector-wide collaboration. The funding is provided by the Australian Government as part of the Growth Centre initiative. It is open to METS companies across Australia.

METS Masterclasses

The METS Masterclasses are an opportunity to understand and benefit from the rapidly changing landscape that has been ushered in by Industry 4.0.

METS Industry Clusters

A successful cluster usually consists of a mapped and growing ecosystem of collaborating companies and related stakeholders. METS Ignited can help establish your cluster initiative.
